I'm not a professional, but I watched as my garage doors were serviced last year. The tech used a spray lubricant (I had bought a different brand in the garage door section of a home improvement store). He sprayed the inside of the entire track, top and bottom, the rollers that ride along the track, and all hinges on the door. He sprayed each hinge twice -- once on each side. The techs were more generous with the lubricant than I was when I'd done it before, so don't be afraid to give it a good squirt.

All measurements should be in feet and inches. Step 1, measure across the existing door or desired space for the width, then up and down for the height. The rough opening of your space should be the same size as the door. Step 2, measure the sideroom, which is the space beside your door. Measure the width of the left side, and then the width of the right side. Step 3, measure the space above the door, which is called the headroom. Measure the height of the distance between the top of the door opening and the ceiling. Step 4, measure the ceiling, which is called the backroom. You’ll need to measure the distance of the garage door opening toward the back wall of your garage. You should have 6 total measurements in all once you’ve finished measuring the space. Keep in mind that having an automatic garage door opener installed might call for additional backroom or ceiling space.

Clint and James called and checked if my son had any problem with them showing up earlier than planned . No biggie there, they came, they examined , and they brought my sons busted garage door back up to a fully operation system . While the cost was more than myself or my son expected , the results were undeniable . A complete system review showed many worn or weak spots in his 14-15 year old bearings and such . They replaced what was needed and door works great . Next stop my house , all I needed was a replacement door seal . After talking with the tag team , I decided to go for the full Monty , and get an update to my bearings etc. Just to protect my wife in case I am not around to jack hammer a door open with a busted spring . My opener also has 2 wheels on the top of each side of the door: one with a big spool of line and the other just a pulley wheel. So I also lubricated the axles of those spools. You can watch closely while raising/lowering the door to see where the parts spin and move. Now my door runs much quieter, so I must have done something right! Hopefully this will reduce strain on the motor and make it last longer.
Just in case you still want to know: You could glue foam panels to the inside of the door, but it would be better to just pressure fit them in place to avoid the weight of the glue. Any weight that you add to the door has the very real potential to unbalance the door. If the springs were a little "hot" or strong to start with, it may not be a bad thing to add weight. If the springs were the right ones, even a few pounds will un-balance the door. If they were too weak to start with, any additional weight is going to make it worse.

A torsion spring counterbalance system consists of one or two tightly wound up springs on a steel shaft with cable drums at both ends. The entire apparatus mounts on the header wall above the garage door and has three supports: a center bearing plate with a steel or nylon bearing and two end bearing plates at both ends. The springs themselves consist of the steel wire with a stationary cone at one end and a winding cone at the other end. The stationary cone is attached to the center bearing plate. The winding cone consists of holes every 90 degrees for winding the springs and two set screws to secure the springs to the shaft. Steel counterbalance cables run from the roller brackets at the bottom corners of the door to a notch in the cable drums. When the door is raised, the springs unwind and the stored tension lifts the door by turning the shaft, thus turning the cable drums, wrapping the cables around the grooves on the cable drums. When the door is lowered, the cables unwrap from the drums and the springs are rewound to full tension.[7]
Extension spring systems should always be restrained by a safety cable that runs through the middle of the spring, tying off to a solid point at the rear and front of the horizontal door track. Extension springs represent a hazard to bystanders when a spring, pulley, or cable breaks under tension. Metal parts from extension spring systems can suddenly be launched.

Automatic doors require not only the installation of a heavy door, but the motor and cables as well.
